The Right Attitude For Poker

Seasoned poker players will tell you that the real secret to surviving in poker is to take every game in your stride. It is important to remember the old saying, "this too shall pass" when it comes to a streak in poker. If you do not do so and instead get carried away with the various ups and downs one experiences in the game, you really cannot survive in it. This hold true for both online poker rooms and brick, mortar poker rooms.  Success and failure are inevitable and sometimes you will find yourself experiencing more of one than the other. You cannot however, let this get to your head.

There are instances of people becoming overly confident resulting in huge losses and people slowly slipping into depression. A losing streak can often push you into the brink as you feel the will to do anything slowly slip away. This is why it is extremely important to leave the poker player in the poker room. When you step out of the room virtual or otherwise, make sure to shake off that person and go back to being who you are. Any sort of pre-conceived notion is never a good idea. When you have a run of bad luck, experts, often suggest taking a break from the game. This is also good psychologically.

Similarly a positive run can sometime inspire arrogance and over confidence in a new player. This is a big mistake as over confidence has been known to make many players play terribly and in a manner not like them. It is important to stay positive but be sure to ensure it does not go to your head. The best state of mind to have for these experience is one where you accept that whatever happens on a particular day and is the result of that day's game alone. Remember no one is asking you to not believe in yourself and your abilities. You must know your strength but along with it is important you stay aware of your weaknesses as well. Be a realist.
